Frequently Asked Questions

Here you can find some answers regarding, art, shipping, payments, policies and custom orders.

Do you do commission work / take requests / do custom work?

Yes I do

So if you like my art style and want to purchase artwork of your favorite location in my art style, just reply to this email or message me with a location request or scene photo or to request more info. You can also ask to see a sample of previously commissioned work.

If your photos are good enough then my preparation of your scene photo would be minimal, and that photo preparation work is included in the base price.

This quality photo would need to be in focus, Have the lighting as you want it, and be well-composed. I’ll need permission from the photographer to use the photo, so it’s best if you are the photographer.

If you can not provide good enough photos or, for that matter, any photos for me to work with, then I can, at extra cost, make up your scene real or imagined, created from my own resources and conversations with you.

2023 Base Price for each size is below. The base price is a typical scenario wherein you provide quality reference photo/photos of your scene or pet for me to work from.

16″ x 24″… $1750 USD ( This is the smallest size that I do)

20″ x 30″ …$2500 USD

24″ x 36″ …$3000 USD

Other custom sizes are available based on $4.50 per square inch.

How long does it take to create these artworks?

Each artwork takes up to 40 hours to complete. The complex creation process is a work in progress and varies with each work, evolving over the last decade and into the future. Currently, my process or workflow is about 24 steps long. It is so complex that I must follow my own notes from beginning to end to complete one. This complexity keeps my art style unique.

Is this a painting, illustration, photo manipulation or what?

It’s a valid question, however, it’s hard to define or categorize, it’s like looking at a Denver omelet and asking the server, is this an Egg, Bell Pepper or Ham? The term Mixed Media is a (best fit) short definition. I refer to my art as mixed media artwork. I think of myself as a mixed media artist. Visually it can have attributes of painting, airbrush, illustration, photography or watercolor and yet the end result is none of those. This art style mixes my favorite attributes of these various major artistic disciplines and media, blending it all into one cohesive work. Some call it a painting and since I hand paint using actual physical paint as part of my process and since the style is obviously a painting style, I won’t correct a person referring to it as a painting or an illustration. When others refer to me. I prefer the term artist over painter, but maybe that’s me just splitting hairs. My private production process adds some elegance to my hand painting that makes me look like a better traditional painter than I am. Therefore if you mention me to someone or share my art, rather than saying please check out this painting or painter, please say something like check out this artist’s work or checkout this artwork.

Does your art style have a name?
My style is “Contemporary Landscape Impressionism,” wherein I seek to capture a feeling or experience rather than to achieve an accurate depiction of the scene. In the case of wildlife or subjects other than landscape, it shortens to “Contemporary Impressionism”
Is this AI (Artifical Intellegence) art?
No it’s not AI art. Here is my definition of what AI art is and why I don’t produce it. “AI-generated art often mimics or grabs parts of the creations of real artists by gathering images from the internet, including both photographs and artworks. The cloud based software then utilizes this collected data to produce new images from its sources.”
I prefer full involvement of my mind and control of the process and outcome. I want my own mind, intelligence, imagination, memories, paints, photographs, production tools, feelings, experience and skill sets involved in my artwork.
I’ve seen excellent artwork produced via AI, but I would find it boring to produce. I just don’t see the point of disconnecting myself from the process. Where’s the fun in that?
So why use mixed media?
Using Mixed Media provides with me total artistic freedom to use my whole artistic skillset. Mixed media is all about breaking the boundaries between different art forms. My cutting edge private art production methods defy many old school categories and definitions. With 21st century mixed media I’m free to create my art with no rules and all tools. This freedom allows me to try new ideas that keep my work unique and interesting. I can blend or use any traditional physical media like paint, canvas, acetate, my own photography. I can and do use traditional tools like paintbrushes, paint pens, combined with digital tools. By regularly using the whole skillset I can continue to advance as an artist, a photographer, a painter, and more.
Can you make a video showing how you create one of these artworks?

Thanks, very much for liking my art enough to want to see exactly how I do it. I also ask people how they achieve a certain look. I’ve spent the last decade obsessively working out the processes of this beautiful and unique art style.

By showing the public and thus other upcoming artists how to mimic my style. I would be creating competitors. These competitors would undermine my efforts to keep my art unique for my collectors as well as lessen my ability to earn a living as an artist.

It’s my bread and butter. So regrettably, I can not share the process. There are many other things about my life and art that I can share. So there will be more videos to come in addition to the ones I’ve already produced.

I have a question for you. When you look at my artwork, what do you feel?
I believe that what you feel when you really look deep into the artwork is much more important than how it was created anyway.
