LAYERS OF LONE PINE

This is Layers of Lone Pine by Frank Lee Hawkins. A contemporary landscape impressionism artwork.

While traveling on Hwy 395 through Lone Pine in the afternoon light, the lighting of this scene which includes Mount Whitney, Lone Pine Peak, and the Alabama Hills, always catches my eye. So I needed to do an artwork that captures the essence of it. Over the years I’ve taken time to think about and put my finger on just what it is that I like when viewing a landscape scene. Sometimes I’ll bring a portable chair to just sit there for a while and just be there experiencing the place. Then later back at my studio in the artwork I will emphasize parts of it and try to convey what it feels like to be there as well as express my idealized way of seeing and remembering it.
